Back in December of last year Richard Branson announced that he would be launching a new cruise line – Virgin Cruises, however no details were released at that time. Now he has announced some more information about the new venture.
The new cruise line will have three ships, with cruises from Miami beginning in 2020. Virgin Cruises will be a “boutique” cruise line with mid-sized ships that carry 2,800 passengers. This is a departure from the recent trend in the cruise industry of building huge ships. Royal Caribbean, for example, has announced that their new Harmony of the Seas will have capacity for 5,479 passengers.
Branson stated in a press release that “we aim to redefine the cruising experience for good.” No details on how he plans to do that, but it should be interesting to see how the plans for this new cruise line progress. Suggestions are being accepted in the comments section of the recent press release page and people have put forth some good ideas.
