Miami Cruise Terminal

Is a mega ship in the future for Port of Miami? Maybe. According to a September 9, 2015 Miami Herald article, there’s an agreement in the works between Royal Caribbean and Miami-Dade County for an expansion to PortMiami that would provide plenty of room for Royal Caribbean to sail more and larger ships from the port.

Under the proposed agreement, Royal Caribbean would pay for the design and construction of a new cruise terminal. They would pay a long-term lease to the port for the land. The proposed cruise ship berth at the terminal is 400 meters long, which is big enough to handle the cruise line’s Oasis-class mega ships. Estimated construction cost for the new terminal is over $100 million.

If the project receives approval from the Miami-Dade commissioners, Royal Caribbean’s plans are to have the new terminal operational by late fall of 2018.
