Amber Cove Cruise Center in the Dominican Republic is the Caribbean’s newest cruise ship destination. The new port is located on the Dominican Republic’s North Coast, near Puerto Plata. The cruise center has berths for two ships, which they are equipped to handle simultaneously.
Puerto Plata isn’t completely new to hosting cruise ships, but it’s been almost 30 years since the last one docked there. This new port has been developed to turn that around and bring cruisers back to the area, and the arrival of the Carnival Victory in October of 2015 will get things underway.
The Victory will be the first of many Carnival Cruise Lines ships to arrive at this port of call. Amber Cove will be on the cruising itineraries for Carnival Breeze, Glory, Splendor, and Victory from Miami as well as Carnival Sunshine and Valor sailings from Port Canaveral, and Carnival Fantasy sailing from Charleston, SC.
The port’s building will be styled to reflect the Colonial architecture of the region. There will be a variety of retail shops and dining options for guests to enjoy on-site. And the cruise center will serve as a transportation hub for land and water excursions. Planned excursion offerings include cross-country buggy excursions, beachfront horseback riding, snorkeling, and visits to coffee plantations.
