PortMiami is getting $33 million over five years in the form of grants from the state to help fund expansions to the busy port’s infrastructure.

The $33 million will go towards the expansion of Cruise Terminal F and the acquisition of additional cranes for the port’s cargo terminals. The plan for Terminal F is to create a “mega” facility that can process over 5,000 cruise passenger simultaneously.

Things are shaping up for Miami to handle an ever-increasing flow of cruise passengers. Expansions to Royal Caribbean’s Miami terminal are already in the works and will allow that cruise line to sail their huge Oasis class ships from the port. And MSC Cruises will begin sailing their new MSC Seaside, which carries over 4,000 passengers, from Miami this winter.
