Royal Caribbean Cruises has entered into an agreement with Miami-Dade County to construct a new cruise terminal at PortMiami. The new terminal will be sized to accommodate Royal Caribbean’s largest Oasis-Class ships, and plans call for an architecturally stunning terminal building.
The new terminal building resembles a stylized crown reminiscent of the cruise line’s crown logo and has been nicknamed the Crown of Miami. The building’s achitects, Broadway Malyan, designed the structure to look like a crown when viewed from the water, an M when viewed from the east or west, and like passing waves or ships from the terminal side.
The 170,000 square foot terminal is designed to support an increased passenger load generated by larger ships and additional departures.
Royal Caribbean currently brings approximately 750,000 passengers to the Port of Miami annually. After the terminal construction is completed, those numbers are expected to rise to at least 1.8 million passengers a year.
